The Argus STL, a series of 35mm SLRs manufactured by Cosina in Japan around 1970 and branded with the Argus name, accommodates M42 lenses. The "STL" indicates "Spot" focusing and "TL" (through the lens) metering. Models vary, with some lacking a hot shoe and featuring front strap lugs, while others are marked asvailable in black and silver, these cameras utilize stop-down metering with a needle indicator beside the viewfinder. Notably, certain models with a hot shoe have a flatter design to the pentaprism cover. Operating on a PX 625 mercury battery, which is now obsolete, the Argus STL 1000 had other variations released without the Cosina name. simply STL. A
